The Classic Newbury leather ankle boot from Rag & Bone. This style has been out for several seasons and due to its popularity, the brand continues to re-release the shoe in different colors and textures. I love Rag & Bone and the Newbury ankle boot serves as the perfect example as to why this label has a cult following. The American ready to wear line is all about quality craftsmanship, simplicity and ease. Although the Rag & Bone look is decidedly modern, it has an inherent warmth in its classic construction. Pieces from any collection can be easily integrated into urban wardrobes or country closets.
One of my favorite personal shopping clients was searching for a trench coat. She was a Manhattan based business woman who understood investment dressing and appreciated design details. We looked at several outerwear options, but we decided on a light, beige trench coat from R & B. It was mid-length and expertly tailored. It had this unusual open pleat detail in the back that revealed a row of beautiful buttons. I learned later that these closures were from Waterbury Button, the oldest button manufacturer in the US. Needless to say, the coat was magnificent! Unfortunately, a couple of years later, it was stolen out of a package that she was shipping to her new San Francisco home. We have since found her another coat, but I still think about that one. The timeless design was classic Rag & Bone.
Now back to the boots! I purchased my black pair about a year ago and have worn them with everything from dresses to skinny jeans. They are effortlessly chic and versatile. The heel adds just the right amount of height without compromising comfort. I suspect that this has much to do with the Newbury ankle boot being spotted on a bevy of starlets including Sienna Miller, Rachel Weisz, Rachel Bilson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. For Spring / Summer 2012, the new colors are Grey and Chili (see above). I love them both! For Fall, Rag & Bone will be offering the Newbury boot in a “to the knee” style. I can’t wait to try the fit!
