Under the creative directorship of Raf Simons, the French powerhouse Christian Dior has become synonymous with contemporary elegance. Sumptuous fabrics and precision cuts are integral to his aesthetic and Dior SS 2015 was no different. Simons’ latest offering had roots in the gorgeous Haute Couture collection he showed in July. Many of his ready-to-wear clients had expressed interest in clothing similar to the feel of the couture.
This runway presentation included long frock coats inspired by 18th-century court attire. These were paired with simple knit tops and quilted drawstring shorts. This unusual combination exuded a street style sensibility. Other highlights included billowy shirt dresses as well as sleek shifts and pencil skirts with black buttons at the hip. This diverse collection is a testament to Raf Simons’ incredible talent in design.
At Dior, the devil was definitely in the details. Jacket edges were lined with fabric covered buttons and sleeves were decorated with intricate micro floral embroideries. Even some of the iconic handbags were given the tiny flower treatment. The effect read feminine instead of overtly girly which is what makes Simons’ Dior woman so compelling. She is beautifully alluring, but never fussy!
