Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli enlisted the colorful imaginations of British textile designer Celia Birtwell (the ex-wife of the late Ossie Clark) and Italian artist Giosetta Fioroni for their lovely Valentino Pre-Fall 2015 collection. This season the designers featured a rich palette of Birtwell’s ’70s-style floral prints inspired by Botticelli’s Primavera on dresses, bags and even footwear. As usual their signature long-sleeved gowns in lace and embellished tulle are destined for the red carpet, while less formal designs such as denim separates brought refreshment to the craft couture. Giosetta Fioroni designed whimsical heart and star motifs that sprinkled everything from dresses and sweaters to coats. These decorative details accentuated this season’s feminine, folksy aesthetic. There is something here to set every heart aflame.
