Stella McCartney’s season-defining AW 2015 collection exuded an irresistible nonchalance with supremely chic yet wearable clothes. Think nipped in, belted waists and structured silhouettes. The first look was an impeccably cut wrap jacket with a squared-off handkerchief hem and flared trousers to match. It was clear that Stella was paying meticulous attention to the drape and feel of every piece as her distinctive tailoring persisted throughout the collection. For texture, there was chunky, oversized knitwear as well as fabulous faux furs. Additionally, there was a series of head-turning separates and dresses in versatile gray (I love it when Stella does gray). She pieced together graphic monochromatic tweeds and played with shoulder-baring necklines. Another highlight was a ladylike gold Jacquard and ivory dress. The lush fabrication and fresh silhouette whisper quiet luxury. It’s this kind of relaxed elegance that McCartney does so well.
For the finale, McCartney put a contemporary twist on evening dressing. She showed black frocks accented with sculptural jewelry (two strands of pearls twisted around the neck). There’s no doubt that the Stella girl will want to add to her party portfolio with this ultra-modern take on the LBD.
