I was recently treated to a an amazing stay at the very exclusive Calistoga Ranch. It is the perfect, private hideaway and I have always wanted to visit. After a gorgeous drive through wine country, I arrived and was promptly greeted by friendly valet attendants and welcomed with a complimentary glass of chardonnay. The check-in process was smooth and easy and I was shuttled by golf cart up into the wooded hillside to my cottage (room).
The cabins are incredible – all cedar wood with copper trimming. The architecture was designed to blend in with the natural surroundings (like that of the Post Ranch Inn). The interiors are equally impressive. His & her sinks, plush beds and indoor / outdoor fireplaces as well as showers make it a place you’ll find it hard to leave. Upon entering my suite, I was greeted with a beautiful cheese plate with nuts and fruit just waiting to be consumed. There was also a small fridge stocked with treats including a bottle of wine, beer and organic Somersault snacks – all complimentary. I loved the chilly morning, enjoying my coffee and the paper out on the patio by the fireplace. Nothing feels more luxurious than having a lovely breakfast in a fluffy bathrobe in the middle of the wilderness.
The entire resort is set within a forest so it’s absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the soothing scents of the oak, eucalyptus and pine trees that follow you everywhere. There is a lot of wildlife (I saw quail and deer), a wine cave, bocce ball courts and bikes to borrow as well as two hiking trails that lead to stunning views. The pools are beautiful, both in the general resort and at the smaller bathhouse at the Calistoga Ranch Spa. The hotel location is fantastic – moments away from wineries, but it’s hard to get motivated to travel to one when someone will just bring you a glass poolside.
Everyone at Calistoga Ranch was courteous and helpful. The onsite restaurant, the Lakehouse, provides excellent food and the wait staff was very attentive. The ambiance was intimate and romantic. The restaurant overlooks the shimmering lake and it is the perfect place to begin a culinary adventure! Everywhere you go, Calistoga Ranch’s tranquil setting enchants you.
At the end of my stay, the valet brought the car around and it was stocked with two fresh water bottles and frozen grapes for my trip home. It’s this kind of thoughtful detail that makes this getaway so special. At only an hour’s drive from San Francisco, this hotel is a real oasis. Revel in the beauty and the luxe tranquility of Calistoga Ranch.
